Supercharged gets a last lap, and it's sooner than anyone planned

Universal moved the closing date up. The reason is a Halloween queue.

Fast & Furious β€” Supercharged closes permanently on August 17, which makes August 16 the last day anyone rides it. Inside Universal reported the date on July 15, and the reasoning is gloriously mundane: the queue gets swallowed by Halloween Horror Nights every autumn anyway, so rather than reopen a ride in November that is already scheduled to die, Universal is letting the seasonal closure be the permanent one.

Nothing has been announced for the building itself. Universal has teased a closer look at Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift β€” the coaster going up on Rip Ride Rockit's old plot, due next year β€” but nobody has said the San Francisco soundstage is part of that plan. For an attraction that spent its entire life as the punchline of Universal Studios Florida, going out on a technicality about Halloween queue space is almost too fitting to be sad about.
